April News - Our Volunteer Training Week
|
|

This month fifteen young adults, who all first sailed with the Trust after treatment for cancer or leukaemia, came to the Isle of Wight to learn more about sailing. They were all working towards their Competent Crew qualification, so they can return as Volunteers in the summer. Read on to find out more about this special Volunteer Training Week. Paul Gavin was treated in 2008 for bone cancer in his leg at Alder Hey Hospital Liverpool, and has just taken part in our Volunteer Training Week. Read on to find out why he wanted to return as a volunteer, and to understand why we feel it is so important that young people sailing for the first time have inspirational people like Paul on board.

Trust Patron Dame Ellen MacArthur established the charity in 2003, and loves spending time with the increasing number of young people who benefit from sailing with the Trust each year. Ellen talks about our Volunteer Training Week, and her Trust highlights in the following 'Interview with Ellen'.
